Having dabbled in running on and off throughout her adult life Emma began again in 2018 and quickly decided to join a group to keep her motivated.
Emma says: “It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, not only did my running go from strength to strength I also made some fantastic, like-minded friends who supported me in my journey.”
She has since completed a number of 10k races and enjoys using races as a motivator and a way to measure her progress. Emma is a parkrun regular and enjoys both running and volunteering at the weekly event. She has also played an integral part in Rogue Runners’ Couch to 5k program, with her cheery nature and unfailingly supportive attitude. She firmly believes that running is for everyone, whatever their size or shape and has supported numerous runners in achieving their goals.
Emma completed her co-leader training in order to be able to support others and has recently completed the Leadership in Running Fitness. Emma says: “Running has really helped to build my self-confidence, although I haven’t lost much weight (which was my original goal), I have a new-found respect and appreciation for my body. It has also helped give myself and my family a sense of belonging to a community, something I feel is missing for a lot of people in modern society.”
The arrival of Emma’s second child has allowed her to delve into the world of ‘buggy running’ for the first time. “Buggy running has been a lifeline to me as it means I can go out running without leaving my little one at home. I love being able to take him along with me, we often stop mid run to look at diggers, feed the ducks or have a play in the park.”
Emma is currently training for her first half marathon event and was delighted to see the return of parkrun following the pandemic. For Emma, parkrun and running really is a family affair!
