Meet the Leader - Beki

Beki has a radiating smile that has adorned hundreds of selfies! She first found her love for running at school, representing the school and district in cross country and track events. Having left school, she gave it up until after she started a family a good few years later. Needing a bit of an interest and wanting a bit of help to lose the rest of the baby weight, she found Jog Derbyshire and joined a group that was then held at Ripley Leisure Centre. She started to enjoy running again for a time and took part in a few 10k races. But with a young family then and other commitments she gradually gave it up.

From time-to-time Beki would try and get back into it but found it difficult to keep motivated running on her own. Also struggling at times with anxiety and self-doubt usually meant the running only lasted a few weeks at a time. Her friend Karen had seen Beki had ran a couple of parkruns on Facebook, she asked if she would be interested in going along to a new running club in Ripley called Rogue Runners. Although very nervous at first and finding meeting new people not easy she went along and loved it!

Since being a member of Rogue Runners Beki has taken part in several challenges including Run Around the World in 2020 running a total of 150 miles in the month of July and also Red January twice, the second time running 140 miles, ran mainly with the help and support of her best friend from Rogue Runners, Marie. She also completed her first half marathon in 2021, finishing in under the 2 hour mark.. Beki, much to her surprise, has enjoyed taking on the role as a run leader for the club, something she never thought she would have the confidence to do.

Beki says "I can honestly say joining Rogue Runners is one of the best things I've ever done. It has made such a difference to me to have that support, encouragement and just feeling part of something. Rogue Runners keeps me motivated to carry on running now. But best of all are the lovely people I've met and the friendships I've made since I joined. It's also helped my confidence so much and I'm happy I can give a little bit back to the club by leading, I just love being a Rogue".
